After almost 7 months of no game play, the Ice were excited and ready to go last weekend to play two exhibition against the Interlake Lightning, and open up regular season play against the Westman Wildcats in Hartney on Sunday.
The Ice came out strong Friday night in their home rink to dominate the first couple minutes of game play and generate many shots on net. The Ice went up 3-0 in the first period, with two goals coming from second year player Maia Ehmann. The last two periods brought a harder push from the Interlake Lightning who managed to get one past Morgan Baker late in the game. The Ice would add two more goals including Ehmann completing her hat trick on a penalty kill breakaway and rookie Ali Staples taking it end to end.
The Ice took on Interlake the following morning, looking to continue their strong play and get accustomed to playing with new girls. Highlights include third year player Kate Stewart finding first year Ella Maternick on a 2-on-1 for Ella to score her first goal as a member of the ice. She would find the back of the net for the second goal of the game as well, on the rebound. The Ice forechecked hard all game, got into slight penalty trouble in the second period but ultimately were able to pull off a 5-1 win over Interlake with a deflection by Raegan Yewdall off of defenseman Meagan Carnegie's shot in the dying seconds of the game.
