Exhibition Excitement

The Winnipeg Ice kicked off the preseason on September 8th with a highly anticipated exhibition game against the Eastman Selects. The Ice had a slow start to the game, with the Selects taking a 1-0 lead six minutes in to the first period. The Ice bounced back a few minutes later after multiple shifts of heavy offensive pressure. Following a strong battle in the corner from Katie Kraus, Martina Barclay came out with the puck and scored the first goal for the Ice, off of one of the Selects players. Rylyn Loepky held her own in goal, only allowing one goal in her half of the game. 

 

The Ice found themselves in some penalty trouble in the final two periods, with nine penalties total. The Ice killed of eight of the nine penalties, with Morgan baker showing a strong performance in net.  Katie Kraus added her second assist of the game on the goal of Kate Stewart, while Julia Bird gave the Ice the lead with her goal off the rush. Now leading 3-2, the Ice fought to keep their lead while the Selects pulled their goalie for one final offensive push. With the Selects not able to find the back of the net, the Ice take their first exhibition game 3-2. 

 

The next time the Winnipeg Ice and Eastman Selects will meet will be in the regular season, on October 23rd. 

 

The Ice are next in action on Friday, September 20th in the Central Plains showcase against the Thunder Bay Queens.
