The Winnipeg Ice's season began in earnest as they opened the Central Plains Showcase event against the reigning MFMHL provincial champs, Eastman Selects.

It was Eastman that was the better team in the first period out-shooting the Ice 13-2, and posting a 2-0 lead after one.

Then the Ice shook off the nerves and drew closer in the second as Seren Jocelyn powered her way onto a breakaway and scored. Maggie Medock drew the lone assist. The Ice showed to be the better team, out-shotting the Selects 13-5 in period 2.

The game had the same lookin the third, as the Ice once again posted 13 shots to the Selects 6, but were unable to even up the score. Emily Shippam stopped 21 of 23 shots.
